In 1228, the Anatolian sultan Seljuk Sultan Kayqubad I ordered the construction of a shipyard facing east facing Alanya Bay, just south of Kızılkule. In the Middle Ages, Alanya was the main shipyard of the Seljuk Empire on the Mediterranean and what remains today is in very good condition.

The old Tersanesi shipyard is located at the end of the small beach next to Kızılkule. You can visit the Shipyard and Tophane with the same entrance fee. Its construction began in 1227 and was completed in a year.

The facade of the shipyard faces the sea, including 5 arched cells, 56.5 m high and 44 m deep. The location chosen for the shipyard was planned to make the most of daylight. The inscription on the entrance gate of the shipyard bears the coat of arms of Sultan Keykubat and is decorated with an asterisk. The historic Alanya Shipyard was built by the Seljuks and is the only one that has been preserved to this day.

The 5 lines of embossed inscriptions on the 4-meter-high door are very prominent. The first inscription praises Alaaddin Ketkubat as the king of the land and the two seas, the king's coat of arms can be seen in between the two rose patterns.

The Alanya shipyard not only built ships or served as a winter shelter for ships, but also had an ironworks, administrative quarters and warehouses where repairs, sailing and ship equipment could be carried out. Permanent shipyards serve two purposes. The first is to allow the construction of large boats in the winter period, and the second is to accommodate the unused boats. All Mediterranean countries provide shelters for ships, as drying ships in the winter shortens their lifespan. However, Alanya Shipyard offers much more than that. The Mediterranean coast is always in danger from navies or pirates, so a strategic location to protect the coast would bring great commercial benefits. Alanya also had such a location, and as part of a complex with two towers within the walls, the shipyard provided a suitable environment for protection from enemy attacks.

The shipyard is under the constant supervision of Emir-üs Sevahil - Commander of the Navy. The activities and role of the shipyard continued to be preserved during the period of Karamanoğulları and Alaiye Beys, who ruled Alaiye after the Seljuks; It is said that ships were built here during the Ottoman period.

Today, the shipyard serves as a museum on maritime and marine themes. When walking on the wooden walkway you can come across an ancient crane in the first round, an unwrapped tugboat, and a mizena (located in the stern, a type of fast sailing boat used in the Ottoman navy of all times. period for logistics in the 2nd arch, the 3rd arch is a place to display masts, shipbuilding tools and freshwater wells, antiques. instrument used to navigate ships.
