Profile
Located at 23 via Cappello, a few dozen meters from the center of Piazza delle Erbe, is the house, traditionally, where Juliet (Giulietta Capuleti) lived. A majestic wrought-iron gate on which the Dal Cappello family crest stands prominently in the center of its entrance hall. In the courtyard there is a splendid bronze statue of Juliet, created by sculptor Veronese N bd Costantini, and a plaque with several verses about the tragedy written by Shakespeare.
The house is a harsh medieval building of the thirteenth century, with a raw brick facade softened by elegant three-lobe windows. At the prominent front is the family balcony, where Juliet stands talking to her Romeo. It is a typical example of a narrow Roman structure, divided into gothic lots with an inner courtyard and arched walkways facing the street. Arrangements on different floors offer the reconstruction possibilities of 14th-century Venetian stately homes, enhanced by an extensive selection of medieval ceramics. Thanks to the skillful restoration of the interior created in 1935 by Antonio Avena, it is now possible to appreciate the refined elegance of the frescoes that adorned the walls, in austere simplicity. of them, the chests, the fireplace bricks, the striking wooden walkways.
Be sure to take the time to visit Juliet Capulet's grave near the house to pay homage to the persona of one of literature's most romantic figures.
