The National Museum of Kazakhstan is the largest museum in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and one of the largest in Central Asia. The museum is located on the grounds of Almaty church, when it was first established in 1931. In 1985, the museum was moved to a new modern and more comfortable premises in the center of Almaty. The museum houses the most important collections of modern history, archeology and political culture of Kazakhstan.

The National Museum of Kazakhstan is one of the largest museums in Central Asia. The museum's collections were originally displayed in the 1830s in the city of Orenburg, and then it was known as the 'Orenburg Regional Museum'. One of the first people in charge of running the museum was the famous linguist and author of the book Explanatory Dictionary, Vladimir Dal. In the following years, the museum added collections from the museum in the Zhetysu region, the museum of the Kazakh army and the museum of anti-religious Republicans.

In 1931, the museum was relocated to the building of the old church of Almaty, a unique architectural complex built in 1904-1907 on the initiative of the famous architect, AP Zenkov . It was one of the few buildings to withstand the devastating earthquake of 1911.

The modern museum building was built in 1985 according to a project led by architects Ratushnyi, Z. Mustafina and B. Rzagaliev. It is one of the most beautiful modern structures in the city. The total area of ​​the museum building is 17,557 square meters including one gallery and four exhibition halls. Today, the museum displays a series of collections with more than 300,000 cultural and historical artifacts of Kazakhstan. Here, visitors will have the opportunity to learn aspects of Kazakhstan's history from Bronze Age burials and nomadic culture to World War II sacrifices; or witness the complete replica of the "golden man" - a national symbol of Kazakhstan, the gold-covered remains discovered in 1969 of a warrior from the 3rd century.

The museum is located in the city center of Almaty, open from 09.00 AM to 05.30 PM and there is no entrance fee.
