icon-locationState Library Victoria, 328 Swanston St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia
Australia's first free public library, a cultural icon of Melbourne.

The library was founded in 1854 as the "Melbourne Public Library". It has become one of Australia's oldest public libraries, as well as one of the world's first free public libraries. For more than 160 years, the library has now become a tourist destination, a learning destination as well as a place to meet and access human knowledge. Those who are interested in reading when visiting the library will find a lot of rare books stored here, books that are difficult to find and buy in the market. You will be impressed from the first time you step into the library, everyone is carefully guided on how to use the library system from borrowing books to accessing the Internet and other library services.

La Trobe Room is the highlight of the library with its wide octagonal dome, built in 1913 and also known as one of the largest domes in the world. The entire dome is made of white glass to bring natural light to the room. With a spacious and comfortable design, this is the most ideal study destination for young people.

The library has a lot of high-value art on display, and visitors can visit and see for free when entering the Keith Murdoch gallery, Cowen gallery or Dome gallery. The library is home to more than two million books, hundreds of thousands of paintings, newspapers, audio materials, digital videos, maps and manuscripts of various fields.
