Until 1947, the famous square between Bellevue and Stadelhofen was still called Tonhallenplatz. In addition to the various events taking place here, since 1902, the square has been renamed Sechseläutenplatz. The square has been redesigned and covered with Vals quartz since 2014 to become a place of rest and outdoor play for locals and tourists.
The Zürich Opera and “Bellevue” – an important tram stop of the city, are also located here, Sechseläutenplatz is one of the largest city squares in Switzerland, created with 16,000 square meters of marble stone. you are elegant. The trees, seating and fountains here make it an inviting and welcoming place for rest, relaxation and fun.
Every spring, the “Sechseläuten” (Spring Festival) is usually held in this square right next to Lake Zürich . Then, in the last week of winter, “Böögg” – an artificial snowman effigy, placed on a stake – will be burned by the locals as a goodbye to winter and welcome to summer. The annual performances of the National Circus Knie and the largest Christmas market in Zürich are also held here.
