“Shopping, partying and culture – a wide range of shops, restaurants and attractions draw locals and tourists to the shopping street in the heart of Munich city centre.”

Considered one of Munich's oldest streets, Kaufingerstraße combines with NeuhauserStraße to become Munich's most important walking and shopping street. Attractive fruit and vegetable stalls along with street artists with creative performances always enliven the promenade and attract tourists to shop.

Kaufingerstraße has been named after Chufringerstraße since 1316, so it is the oldest street in Munich next to the Rindermarkt. During World War II, most of the road was destroyed and rebuilt with postmodern architecture at the turn of the millennium. Thanks to the construction of the main S-Bahn line for the 1972 Olympic Games, the city center is car-free. From Marienplatz you can admire the old town hall, to Munich's famous Frauenkirche church tower past Kaufingerstraße and Liebfrauenstraße, and finally stroll along Neuhauserstraße to the vast medieval city gate on Karlsplatz(Stachus) . At Stachus there is a large fountain where many people stop for a breath of fresh air before continuing to shop the wide aisles.

Among the city's most popular attractions, such as Marienplatz, Frauenkirche and Karlsplatz (Stachus), there are also traditional department stores, drugstores, electronics stores, fashion boutiques and souvenir shops. Small covered walkways make shopping enjoyable even in the rain.
