Fisherman's Bastion was built between 1895 and 1902 on Budapest's Castle Hill not for defense but as an observation point. The site of this fairy tale castle, with its seven towers representing the Seven Chiefs of the Magyar, who founded the nation of Hungary in 896 BC. It offers beautiful views of the city, the Danube, and panoramic views of the ornate parliament building across the river. In the Middle Ages, a fishing guild guarded the area, giving the fortress its name and its construction to coincide with the restoration of a nearby church.
Fisherman's Bastion is just steps away from some of the most important attractions in Buda Castle. Beneath the Fisherman's Bastion is the "Chapel of St. Michael" is a medieval hideaway, where visitors can watch a 3D film of key events in Hungarian history. Additionally, Fisherman's Bastion embraces a fascinating sculptural work that is " Statue of St. Stephen”.
Fisherman's Bastion restaurant can be found towards Buda Palace on the hill in the castle area.
