2. MRT Map Tips: 6 Key Lines to Remember
The Singapore train system consists of 6 coloured lines – follow the colour to get to the right place:
- Blue DT (Downtown Line) - : Fly from Marina Bay to Chinatown.
- Green EW (East West Line) East-West Line: Cross-island from Changi Airport to Universal Studios.
- Red NS (North South Line) North – South Line: Check-in at the Botanical Gardens or Singapore Zoo.
- Purple NE (North East Line) North East Line: Explore colorful Little India.
- Orange CC (Circle Line) Circle Line: Around the National Museum, Clarke Quay.

- To change lines, get off at Interchange stations such as Dhoby Ghaut, Raffles Place...
💡 Tatinta “suggests”: Before “setting off”, clearly identify the departure and arrival stations on the MRT map. “Check carefully” which EXIT gate is closest to the attraction to “set off” in a “cool” way!
3. Fees & EZ-Link Card: "Extreme" Savings
- Ticket price: Only from 1 SGD/trip (about 19k VND) - travel all day for less than 100k!
- To make traveling by MRT and bus as smooth as honey, buy an EZ-Link or Nets Flash Pay card . This is a multi-purpose “pass” that every Singaporean has:
- Buy at Passenger Service counter at train station (12 SGD, including 5 SGD card issuance fee + 7 SGD prepaid). Card is valid for 5 years.
- Do not share cards – each person has their own card.
- Children under 0.9m go free, 0.9m – 7 years old apply for Concession Card for free.
💡 Tip: Use EZ-Link card to buy tickets to Gardens by the Bay or Universal Studios !
4. EZ-Link Card Top-up: 5 "Easy" Steps
When your phone runs out of battery, you have to charge it. When your EZ-Link card runs out of money, you have to top it up! Don't worry, topping up your EZ-Link card is just as easy:
- Ticketing machines are everywhere: Look for a TransitLink General Ticketing Machine at any train station. They accept cash (SGD 2, SGD 5, SGD 10…) but “no change”.
- “Top-up” at the “convenience paradise” 7-Eleven: Or ask the customer service counter staff to “give you a hand” too.
- Singapore domestic Visa/Mastercard: Some machines accept Singapore domestic bank cards for top-up, but international cards are not accepted.
“Secret” to deposit money “perfectly”:
- Prepare small change (2/5/10 SGD) – the machine does not give change.
- Place the card on the machine (sensor area).
- Select “Top Up” → select denomination.
- Send money → wait for confirmation.
- Get card & receipt – done!
👉 Alternatively : Top up at 7-Eleven or ask the train station staff for assistance.
5. Hours of Operation & "Survival" Notes
- Train hours: 5:30 am – 12:30 pm (check exact times for each station here ).
- Small note: Opening/closing times may shift slightly by a few minutes depending on the station.
- “Rest” at midnight : The train does not run all night. This time is for maintenance and repair of the system!
- “Tap in & tap out” – “Remember Like It” : Swipe the card at the beginning and end of the journey.
- Taboo:
❌ Eating and drinking on the train (fine 500 SGD).
❌ Forget to swipe your card when entering/exiting the station (maximum fee will be charged).
6. Explore Together: Take the Train – Where to Play?
