This is one of the few authentic local food restaurants opened by Hawaiians themselves with an interesting history.

It's not a luxury table and chairs, but the Waiahole Poi Factory is a place where visitors can experience authentic Hawaiian cuisine and get a feel for the lives of the locals.

The restaurant is named Waiahole Poi Factory because it used to be a factory that produced Poi, a traditional dish made from the roots of the Hawaiian taro plant, more than 100 years old. The house was built in 1905 and used as a poi factory for nearly 70 years, until it was bought and renovated into an art gallery by the couple Charlene and Calvin Hoe in 1971. The place began to return to its "nature" when the Hoe and his wife, along with locals in the Waiahole valley, refurbished the factory so that it could continue producing poi in the 1980s. Since 2009, Waiahole Poi Factory is officially open to welcome diners to enjoy "home-made" Hawaiian dishes and, of course, hand-made Poi, with the aim of sharing and preserving tradition. Hawaiian cuisine.

The restaurant menu includes dishes inspired by the traditional dishes that often appear during Hawaii Luau sessions - large parties held on special occasions with family and friends.
