A place where terror can be seen, a place of remembrance and warning from historical evidence – the exhibition “Tepography of Terror” is located on the site that was once the main base of the persecution of the Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945: it was the headquarters of the Gestapo, the high security and command service of the SS, and from 1939 the Reich Security Main Office. With over a million visitors each year, it is one of the most frequently visited museums and memorial centers in Berlin.
Permanent exhibitions located on Wilhelm and Prinz-Albrecht Straße provide visitors with information about Nazi organizations and the crimes they committed. It was the site of the persecution against the political opponents of Nazi Germany in Germany and abroad, the organization and management, and the coordinated genocide of the Jews in Europe, Sinti and Rome. At five locations are photographs and documents illustrating the history from the time the Nazis came to power until the end of the war.
Visitors will find even more special temporary exhibitions dealing with various aspects of National Socialism.
A second permanent exhibition in the trenches excavated along Theo Niederkirchnerstraße looks at Berlin's role as the capital of the "Third Reich", open from spring to autumn. The exhibition boards tell the story of Berlin in the Weimar republic, Berlin under Nazi Germany and during the war, and the aftermath of Nazi rule.
