Although many Western media consider communism to be a dark age, most older Bulgarians speak of this period with fondness and many even want to go back to that era. period because they are much less complex than modern life. Entering Red Flat means traveling back in time back to Communist Bulgaria of the 1980s. By visiting the home of an ordinary family - the Petrovi family, visitors will discover the daily lives of the people. How Bulgaria in the Cold War. What is the difference between working and playing, going to school and vacationing, eating, drinking, watching TV, partying and doing housework in communist times compared to today? The Red Flat is the answer to many people's questions.

In The Red Flat there are 5 different rooms (living room, open plan dining room, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen) and 46 different recordings with content about the communist period and this house.

Passing through the Petrovi family's living room, visitors will learn about topics surrounding everyday life in communist Bulgaria, from labor in the state planned economy to football competitions and prepare for winter. What is life like for the family under this communist regime with the father going to work far away in Libya and the electricity being randomly turned off will be turned on and off here. Also in this house, visitors can make some communist-style toast and try fenugreek (an herb used in Bulgaria to greet guests).

Visitors can view the family's collection of books, postcards, photo albums, wardrobes and try on some genuine socialist clothing. Historical and spiritual items the Balkan bike, Sofia 85 TV, Maritsa 30 typewriter and Resprom tape recorder are still in good working order today. Visitors can even listen to pre-recorded fairy tales on their phones, as Bulgarian children often do, or read Workers' newspapers anywhere in the house.
