Stadtpark

Stadtpark is a large park located in the city center of Vienna, Austria. This park extends from the Ringstraße boulevard in the Innere Stadt district to the Heumarkt in the Landstraße district. The park is divided into two parts by the Wienfluss River, and has a total area of about 65,000 square meters. In the park there are many monuments to famous Viennese artists, writers and composers, such as Hans Canon, Emil Jakob Schindler, Johann Strauss II, Franz Schubert and Anton Bruckner. The Kursalon building on Johannesgasse, with its spacious terrace overlooking the park, is a popular venue for waltz concerts.

Stadtpark has a long history, opened to the public in 1862, as Vienna's first park. The park was designed in the style of English gardens by landscape painter Josef Selleny, while the planning was carried out by city gardener Rudolf Siebeck. On the south bank of the Wienfluss River, the so-called Kinderpark (Children's Park) was created in 1863, and is still used today mainly as a playground and sports ground. The Karolinenbrücke (Caroline Bridge), built in 1857 (since 1918 known as Stadtparkbrücke - City Park Bridge) connects it with the main part of the park on the north side of the river.

Stadtpark is a cultural site worth a visit when in Vienna. You can get here by public transport, such as metro U4, bus 2A or 3A. You can also park in the Am Stadtpark car park or the Weihburggasse car park. The area surrounding the park is a short-term parking area from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. You can join free guided tours of the park, organized by the Friends of Stadtpark. You'll hear about the park's history, architecture, and flora, as well as tour the monuments, buildings, and lakes.
