“An iconic restaurant in Budapest, serving the best traditional Hungarian and Hungarian-Jewish food in the city”

Entering Rosenstein, the most revered Hungarian-Jewish restaurant in Budapest, diners feel a sense of friendliness and a little bit of familiarity. Simple white tablecloths, chic homewares, dark wood furniture, fresh flowers and wall art, and the waiters exude professionalism without being ostentatious. The warm welcome – from the father-son chef duo to the weekly menu honoring traditional Hungarian and Jewish meals – reveals the familiar coziness of grandparent dinners.

Striking the perfect balance between tradition and passion is the forte of owner and chef Tibor Rosenstein, and now his son and partner, Róbert. What Tibor started as a small buffet in 1996 on a side street next to Keleti train station (still in operation next to the restaurant today) has grown into one of the city's best restaurants. , thanks to culinary expertise and entrepreneurial talent.

Rosenstein's menu includes Hungarian-Jewish specialties, from gulyás to lecsó (chili and tomato stew), roast lamb with garlic hremzli (potato pancakes) to foie gras with red cabbage; comfort food dishes such as töltött káposzta (stuffed cabbage) and Brassó aprópecsenye (a dish made with roasted pork, potatoes, garlic and paprika).

Hungary, with its tradition of soups, breads and meats in its dishes, has also infused its own flavors into Jewish cuisine with deep Hungarian roots. There are many great dishes to try in Rosenstein and one of them is the solet. Sólet is a Hungarian-made Jewish stew, a slow-baked bean stew prepared for the Sabbath. Hungarian locals add their own paprika, as well as onions, hard-boiled eggs and meat. The type of meat added largely depends on the region, customs and wealth of the cook, and may include smoked pork, goose or duck. At Rosenstein, the solet comes with stuffed goose neck, creamy roasted egg, and smoked brisket. It's a hearty meal, well-prepared and a must-try when you arrive at the restaurant.

The menu at Rosenstein is varied and features a wide selection of wines from Hungary's top cellars. The restaurant has six rooms on two floors, suitable for hosting private events.
