Perched on a plateau to the south of the Arno River, Piazzale Michelangelo is without a doubt one of the best places to see all of Florence's splendor.
The large square contains a bronze replica of Michelangelo's David. It also has many restaurants and cafes where you can sit and enjoy the view. If you don't want to spend a lot of money, you can also buy delicious Italian ice cream or snacks from any of the refreshment stands in the square.
The Piazzale Michelangelo can be reached on foot from the Arno riverbank (with some well-marked footpaths). However, in our opinion the easiest way to get to Piazzale is to take bus 12 or 13, which will take you directly into the square.
If you want to take good pictures of the scenery, the best time to climb the Piazzale Michelangelo is at noon. At sunset, it will be difficult to take good pictures as you will be backlit by the sun.
