Profile
Wine expert Billy Wagner teamed up with talented young chef Micha Schäfer to bring a new concept to the restaurant, where all the ingredients in each dish come from Brandenburg's local origins. After searching for a while, they chose the location in a gray house from the 60s at the end of Friedrichstrasse, south of Checkpoint Charlie. Dark curtains block any view from the outside, evoking the curiosity of passersby. A dining area, where up to 26 guests will sit at a table counter surrounding the open kitchen, provides a unique experience. The restaurant also has a space in the back for groups of 14 guests. The low ceilings and floors are specifically designed to absorb noise and create a very pleasant vibe as Billy plays acoustic music from the vintage vinyl records he collects.
There are no compromises at Nobelhart & Schmutzig when it comes to food. The restaurant does not serve an a la carte menu, but only a set menu consisting of 10 dishes. All locally sourced produce is represented in the carrot soup with dried chrysanthemums. Postelein greens are served over hazelnut milk, pickled red grapes and currant bush oil – a wonderful and beautiful dish for guests to enjoy the freshness of hazelnuts perfectly balanced by oil, acidity of berries and crisp winter greens.
During the meal, Billy is responsible for advising when guests ask about wine and other beverages. The brothers suggested very comfortable and creative drinks that guests did not expect. For example, a lambrusco to start, a Heidenpeter beer with onions or pear cider to accompany dessert.
