Profile
Although the rankings change every year, New York City, Rome, Paris, London and Milan have always been considered the elite group of the global fashion capital.
Fashion Quadrant
The Quadrilatero della moda (fashion quadrangle) is formed by Milan's most elegant shopping streets. This part of the city is filled with high-end boutiques and brands such as Prada, Gucci, Moschino, Versace and Bulgari.
The most famous high street in Milan are Via Montenapoleone and Via della Spiga. Between these two streets are other shopping streets that make up the famous quadrangle, though none is as prestigious as the two previously mentioned.
All the shops in the fashion quadrangle are high-end brands, so if you're visiting Milan on a tight budget, don't expect to find any cheap stores in this area. However, we recommend visiting the area to see the view and experience the bustle of the city.
Gallery Vittorio Emanuele II
This glass-covered mall houses some of the most prestigious shops in Milan. You can find more information about these galleries on the following link: Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
Affordable shopping street in Milan
If you want to shop in Milan, the most famous fashion boutiques in the city are in the following streets:
Corso Vittorio Emanuele II: This street runs from Piazza del Duomo to San Babila and has stores like Diesel, Replay, Zara or H&M.
Corso di Porta Ticinese: Between Via Edmondo de Amicis and Square 24 Maggio are Milan's most alternative shops. Custo, Diesel or Miss Sixty share this area with vintage clothing stores and young designers.
Via Torino: Part of Piazza del Duomo, Via Torino features the most popular brands like Zara, H&M, Pimkie, Calzingonia, Foot Locker and Pull and Bear.
Corso Buenos Aires: Although a bit remote and not very pretty, this is still an important commercial street. The shops are like the ones in Via Torino.
Department store Milan
There are very few department stores in Milan. That said, Rinascente, a department store with luxury brands and expensive goods is located in Piazza del Duomo. The upside is that it's open every day of the week, and the top floor has some nice restaurants and terraces.
Business hours
Most shops in Milan are open daily from 10am to 8pm. Stores that are not on the main shopping streets are usually closed on Mondays or only open from 3pm to 8pm. Some stores also close for lunch, for about an hour, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.
Department stores, for example, "La Rinascente" are open until 9 p.m. weekdays and until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
