Renaissance Music Festival

One of the coolest music festivals in Sicily. Renaissance and Medieval musical artists from all over the world perform in the beautiful village of Erice. The festival incorporates into the celebration of Ferragosto on the 15th with fireworks and special food.

Sicily's historical connection is not only with mainland Italy, but with Greek, Arab, and Spanish cultures. The result is a diverse and unique fusion of musical elements on the island. It also features a variety of folk musical instruments, many of which can also be found in other parts of Southern Italy. It is also home to the most exciting music festival of the year, the Renaissance music festival.

Taking place for a week in August each year, the festival is dedicated to Renaissance historical music. Located in the southern town of Erice, famous musicians from Italy flock to town to draw crowds with old-fashioned music, demonstrating their love of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. The festival is a more laid-back event than the others that take place in Sicily. At this festival, residents and visitors can both listen to music, sip the finest Sicilian wines and enjoy exquisite cheeses.
