Lake Müggelsee is the largest and one of the most famous lakes in Berlin. Part of the river Spree flows through it, also known as the Müggelspree. The lake borders the districts of Köpenick, Friedrichshagen, Rahnsdorf and Müggelheim.
The large area of Lake Müggelsee offers locals and visitors a wide range of water and shore sports. Boating and windsurfing and boat activities in marked channels are allowed. In addition, there are many restaurants and cafes around the lake, houseboats and the Friedrichwerk Water Works Museum around the lake. Guests also have the opportunity to join various boat tours.
There are plenty of places to swim on the shores of Lake Müggelsee and entry is free for swimmers. Walking or hiking around the lake is a great way to relax. If visitors want to go the entire lake area, they will have to spend 10 minutes to take the small ferry between Müggelwerder and Müggelhort (runs once an hour in summer), then follow the lake loop and they will arrive at a beer garden pretty in about 30 minutes.
Surrounding the lake with plenty of small sandy spots for a dip, the Strandbad Müggelsee is a great swimming establishment, although the flocks of ducks and swans here sometimes make swimming a challenge.
