“There is a full range of cheeses that are aged and fermented completely in a cheese cellar in the Old Town, from Chäshütte’s own special fondue, to Raclette to many more.”

Chäshütte in Bern Old Town dates back more than 120 years. Dieter Heugel's grandmother founded it in 1894. Five generations later, it was run by brothers Dominic and Patrick Bärfuss. This charming, traditional shop on Rathausgasse has plenty of offers to excite cheese lovers and connoisseurs.

In addition to the fine traditional cheeses, some of which are aged and matured in the sandstone cheese cellar directly below the store to create a “chüschtig” and quality cheeses. The basement is where wheel-sized cheese loaves have spent months aging and fermenting to be ready for cheese lovers.

At Chäshütte, the mantra “Hüt isch Fonduewätter” (Today is the right weather for fondue!) is applied 365 days a year. That's why the special cheese fondue flavor found exclusively at Chäshütte is available year-round and is always sought after by locals and from the vicinity. In addition to cheese, there are also other delicious snacks like olives & antipasti for those who want to linger for a relaxing cheese tasting session after a long day.
