It is operated by Thames Clippers' Uber Boat and is served by various river transport and cruise operators. It is located next to Westminster Bridge on the north bank of the River Thames and close to one of London's most prominent landmarks, Big Ben. And with a view across the river is the London Eyes (one of the symbols of the city).

The former Westminster Floating Dock has existed on this site since the 1950s, running along the River Thames between Kew and London Dock. The floating dock serves as a landing point for many Royal cruises, including the conclusion of Queen Elizabeth II's Commonwealth tour in May 1954.
On 7 February 1955, night watchmen reported finding a leak in the dock that caused the middle section to sink. Port of London Authority workers spent three hours trying to drain the central pontoon, with the pier half flooded at 10am before sinking completely "when Big Ben got stuck at 12am" . No one was injured in the sinking, and staff had time to evacuate and retrieve important documents. The sinking was widely reported in the press and media of the time, and it was parodied in an episode of The Goon Show a week after the incident.
