The Sofia National Museum of Ethnology is located within the grounds of the former Royal Palace and is also home to the National Art Gallery. The mission of the Museum of Ethnology is to collect, preserve and display things related to the country's long-standing culture, from which to introduce to international friends or simply as a place for everyone to visit. people can come to visit and learn about the precious things that existed in the past.

Currently, the National Museum of Ethnology is storing and displaying more than 50,000 items covering a variety of genres from clothing, jewelry crafts, bronzes, ceremonial items, wood carvings, and agriculture. , ceramics, fabrics and embroidery, home furniture, carpets to foreign art works, ... in the first decades of the 20th century. Therefore, this is considered one of the the wealthiest museums in the Balkan peninsula. Since its establishment until now, the museum has exhibited independently or in conjunction with other museums to carry out more than 50 exhibitions at home and abroad.

At the same time, the collection of the Sofia National Museum of Ethnology is a representation of the characteristics of traditional Bulgarian folk costumes through its details and compositional structure. From there, their importance and function in the life of the Bulgarian people are highlighted. This is also part of the fund "Bulgarian folk costumes" - one of the country's treasures that speak to the special unity between different peoples and cultures in the community.

When visiting the museum, visitors can learn more interesting facts about the traditions and beliefs of the Bulgarian people from the curators and admire the collection of objects, clothes or paintings. Hand embroidery is one of the most distinctive features of Bulgarian folklore.
