Profile
Albert Einstein spent part of his life in Bern. He arrived in the Swiss capital in 1902 and received a post at the federal patent office. In 1903, he and his wife - Mileva, moved into an apartment on the second floor of Kramgasse 49, in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The apartment on the second floor at Kramgasse 49 was rented by Einstein from 1903 to 1905. The old spiral staircase to the second floor has been kept in its original state; Visitors can clearly imagine how Einstein went up and down the stairs every day. The living conditions of Einstein and his wife Mileva and son Hans Albert are more accurately represented in the second-floor apartment with furniture from that period, as well as Einstein's photographs and notes and texts presented with great care. aid of modern exhibition systems.
The entrance has been renovated as well as the stairs, which welcome visitors with an illustration of the Milky Way. With the additional inclusion of the third floor, there is space to present Einstein's biography and his work. Here, various exhibitions related to Einstein's work and research are planned. A variety of publications, books, and postcards are also printed for visitors to take home as souvenirs. In addition, a 20-minute video introducing Einstein's life, thoughts and work was also shown.
