Fish festivals
Quy Nhon - VietnamCau Ngu festival is held according to the culture and beliefs of local fishermen to express the gratitude of the Ong fish (or whale - fisherman called Nam Hai god), wishing for a peaceful sky, calm sea, and favorable rain. the wind is good, boats go out to sea have a good harvest; Wishing all good things and peace to the people of the fishing village.
The festival is usually held at the Whale shrine in spring and autumn every year.
The festival of praying for fish is usually conducted in two parts: the ceremony (giving the spirit), that is, the procession of the souls of the "Monsieurs" and those who died in the river and died at sea to their resting place. Next is the opening part with many fun activities such as singing, dancing, boat racing, swimming competition... The activities in this part reflect the activities and labors of fishermen on the waves.
The ceremony took place solemnly with the following rituals: Nghinh god Nam Hai entering the palace (offering the fish to Ong Nam Hai Tomb), offering sacrifice to Nam Hai god (with sword dancing to serve god), worshiping the king, praying for the country Thai people's security, Ba Chao performance.
The festival part was held enthusiastically with folk games and sports activities, such as: tug of war, blindfolded catching ducks, swimming baskets, shaking baskets, etc. In addition, the special feature of the festival is dancing and singing. Ba Trao performed by local people, a type of opera with singing and dancing shows the scenes of labor and activities of fishermen; and talked about the merits of fish he helped fishermen in difficulties and troubles at sea...
