"A museum ship since 1983, the three-masted Rickmer Rickmers is one of Hamburg's most famous ship collections."

A ship the world at large has ever seen - follow the exciting trail of amazing spins on the floating museum's Rickmer Rickmers expansive steamer. The tall ship was built in 1896 and has been a floating landmark in the Hanseatic city port since 1983. The ship has a history of adventure behind it, voyages abroad that don't always end in a whirlwind. happy way.

The story of Rickmer Rickmers begins with Rickmer Clasen Rickmers, (1807–1886) - a shipbuilder in Bremerhaven, and Willi Rickmer Rickmers (1873–1965) leading a Soviet-German expedition to the Pamirs in 1928. Rickmer Rickmers was built in 1896 by the Rickmers shipyard in Bremerhaven, first used on the Hong Kong route carrying rice and bamboo. In 1912 it was bought by Carl Christian Krabbenhöft, renamed Max and changed to the Hamburg-Chile service.

During World War I, Max was captured by the Portuguese Government at the port of Horta (Azores) and lent to Great Britain as a war aid. For the remainder of the war, the ship followed Union Jack, going by the name Flores. After World War I, she was returned to the Portuguese Government, became a training ship of the Portuguese Navy and was again renamed NRP Sagres. In 1958, the ship won the Tall Ships' Race. In the early 1960s, Sagres (II) was retired from school service when the Portuguese Navy purchased from Brazil a new school ship Guanabara (originally launched in Germany in 1937 as call Albert Leo Schlageter). In 1962, the old Guanabara was commissioned as a school ship as Sagres (III). At the same time Sagres (II) was renamed Santo André, reclassified as a depot. NRP Santo André, still moored at Lisbon Naval Base, was decommissioned in 1975. Finally, in 1983 by an organization called "Windjammer für Hamburg eV" bought the Santo André and renamed it. back into Rickmer Rickmers to serve as a floating museum.

Now that the Rickmer Rickmers has become a permanent part of the impressive skyline at the port of Hamburg, the ship flies the German flag and answers its original name Rickmer Rickmers. Rarely does this aging ship leave the docks, except for renovations, when the ship's distinctive green color needs repainting and other necessary maintenance.

More than just a museum attraction, Rickmer Rickmers also has a restaurant on board, serving excellent dining options. For thrill-seekers, they can climb the ship's masts and go truss on Saturdays and public holidays. At 35 meters above sea level you will have one of the best views of the harbour.
