Journey to the Wind Farm Fields
Located about 20 km from the city center, the Bạc Liêu Wind Farm is easily accessible via Cao Văn Lầu Road. A 3-meter-wide concrete road extends out to the sea, leading visitors close to the towering turbines, creating a majestic landscape against the backdrop of the ocean. Standing before the 80-meter tall turbines, you can feel the grandeur and power of nature, as well as the human effort to harness renewable energy.
Development and Contribution
Commenced in September 2010, the Bạc Liêu Wind Farm has successfully completed two phases with 62 turbine towers, achieving a total capacity of 241.2 MW. It is the largest wind energy project in Vietnam and the first to be built on the continental shelf in Southeast Asia. To date, the facility has contributed over 1 billion kWh to the national grid, solidifying Bạc Liêu’s position in the renewable energy sector.
An Attractive Tourist Destination
The wind farm not only contributes to socio-economic development but also attracts around 200,000 visitors each year. Guests come not only to admire the unique scenery but also to experience the awe-inspiring sight of the wind turbines. Ms. Huỳnh Thị Bảo Trâm, a visitor from Cần Thơ, shared, “The scenery here is amazing, like Europe. I feel proud of what humanity has created.”
Exploring Tourism Potential
Bạc Liêu is actively developing eco-tourism models combined with renewable energy exploration. The Deputy Director of the Bạc Liêu Department of Culture, Information, Sports, and Tourism stated that the project not only creates jobs but also contributes to environmental protection and climate change mitigation. In 2019, the site was recognized as a prominent tourist destination in the Mekong Delta.
To enhance its potential, Bạc Liêu is calling for investment in resorts and entertainment services near the “wind farm fields,” while also developing tours connecting to nearby attractions like Quan Âm Phật Đài Pagoda, the ancient longan garden, and the residence of the Bạc Liêu prince.
The Bạc Liêu Wind Farm is not only a symbol of renewable energy technology but also an enticing tourist destination. With its natural beauty and rich tourism potential, Bạc Liêu is establishing its unique identity, creating exciting experiences for visitors. If you have the chance to visit the Mekong Delta, be sure to stop by to enjoy the beauty and uniqueness of the Bạc Liêu Wind Farm!
