The mansion's grounds, which are recognized as a national historic site, are more than 20 hectares (50 acres), built in 1916 by industrialist James Deering as a family winter home. Vizcaya's grounds include: extensive Italian Renaissance gardens; primeval forest landscape; and a complex of historic buildings.
The mansion is designed in the Italian Renaissance style, consists of 34 rooms arranged around the central courtyard and decorated with many furniture and artworks of European origin in the 15th and 19th centuries. To build To build Vizcaya, Deering employed more than 1,100 masons and craftsmen, many of them from Europe, to ensure the authenticity of the design.
Now, every year, Vizcaya attracts many visitors thanks to its beautiful garden and well-preserved collection of art and antique furniture. The mansion is also frequently used for filming, including Bad Boys II and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
The ground floor area and garden are decorated with Italian and French fountains, swimming pools and beautiful statues.
