1. General Introduction

1.1. Location

Viet Phu Thanh Chuong is located by Keo Ca Lake, Hien Ninh Commune, Soc Son District, Hanoi, approximately 40 km from the city center. The complex was built on an area of over 8,000 m², nestled amidst lush greenery, making it ideal for day trips or short retreats.

More than just a heritage site or museum, Viet Phu Thanh Chuong is a convergence of traditional Vietnamese cultural essence. The complex is often described as a “living museum,” vividly recreating Vietnamese architecture, fine arts, and daily life across centuries.

2. History of Formation & Development

2.1. The Founding Vision

Painter Thanh Chuong conceived the idea of building Viet Phu in the late 1990s, aspiring to preserve traditional architectural features that were gradually fading over time.

2.2. Construction Process

Construction began in 2001. Numerous ancient houses, communal houses, pagodas, wells, and traditional materials were collected from various regions for restoration and reconstruction.

2.3. Present Value

After more than 20 years of development, Viet Phu Thanh Chuong has become a renowned cultural tourism destination and a valuable site for researching traditional architecture.

3. Architecture & Space

3.1. Architectural Overview

Viet Phu comprises over 30 structures of varying sizes, designed as a miniature ancient village featuring ironwood houses, curved tile roofs, brick courtyards, and tranquil ponds.

3.2. Notable Structures

Muong Stilt House recalls the lifestyle of ethnic communities in Northern Vietnam’s mountainous regions.
Pagoda Tower reflects distinctive Buddhist architectural elements.
Main House (Dai Duong Hall) serves as the central space of Viet Phu, displaying antique wooden furniture, traditional platforms, altars, and numerous valuable artifacts.
Five-compartment, seven-compartment, and nine-compartment houses represent traditional architectural styles of the Northern Delta.

3.3. Artistic Space

The complex also showcases many contemporary artworks by Thanh Chuong, creating a harmonious dialogue between tradition and modernity.

4. Cultural Experiences

4.1. Water Puppet Art

One of the highlights at Viet Phu is the water puppet stage, constructed in authentic traditional style. Visitors can enjoy folk performances that recreate Vietnamese daily labor, festivals, and spiritual life.

4.2. Traditional Cuisine

The on-site restaurant serves rustic Vietnamese dishes such as banh cuon, bun cha, clay-pot rice, sour soup, boiled morning glory, and more. All are prepared following traditional flavors, offering a warm and familiar dining experience.

Visitors can stroll through gardens, lotus ponds, and enjoy the serene atmosphere surrounded by nature.

5.1. Opening Hours

Daily: 9:00 – 17:00. It is recommended to visit in the morning or early afternoon to allow ample time for exploration.

5.2. Admission Fees

Adults: approximately 150,000 VND/person.
Children: approximately 120,000 VND/person.

Ticket prices may vary depending on the time; visitors are advised to check in advance.

5.3. How to Get There

From central Hanoi, head toward Nhat Tan Bridge – Noi Bai Airport, then turn toward Soc Son. Visitors can travel by motorbike, private car, taxi, or join a group tour.

5.4. Notes

Wear sneakers or low-heeled footwear for convenient walking, bring water and a hat during summer visits, and help preserve the landscape by avoiding littering or touching displayed artifacts.
