East Village bordered by 14th Street to the north, Houston Street to the south, D Avenue to the east, and Bowery to the west, East Village is one of New York City's most unique and vibrant neighborhoods.

The East Village was a center of art and counterculture during the 1960s and 1970s. Visitors to the neighborhood can explore this period of history by visiting the neighborhood's many cultural facilities, such as such as the New Museum, dedicated to contemporary art, and the Public Theatre, one of the city's premier performance spaces. The East Village is also home to a number of historic sites, including the former home of the famous Beat poet Allen Ginsberg, now a museum dedicated to his life and career.

In addition to its rich cultural history, the East Village is also home to a variety of restaurants and cafes, serving a variety of cuisines, from traditional Italian and Jewish to modern fusion. The East Village is also home to a number of specialty food outlets, such as the popular Ess-a-Bagel, which has been serving New York-style bagels for over 40 years.

The East Village is also a hub of nightlife with numerous bars, clubs and music venues. One of the more legendary music venues is CBGB, home to many of the city's most popular punk and alternative bands.

Another important feature of the East Village is its political contributions. A representative organization is the National Organization for Women and the birthplace of the modern gay rights movement, which began with the Stonewall Inn riots in 1969.
