Duyen Ninh Pagoda

Duyen Ninh Pagoda is located in Chi Phong village, Truong Yen commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province. The pagoda is 4km from Am Tien cave along Trang An avenue towards Bai Dinh pagoda, very close to King Dinh Tien Hoang temple and located between two famous tourist attractions, Bai Dinh pagoda and Trang An eco-tourism area.

Along with ancient temples such as Kim Ngan Pagoda, Am Tien Pagoda, Co Am Pagoda, Nhat Tru Pagoda, Duyen Ninh Pagoda are the oldest temples built under King Dinh-Le and exist to this day. Duyen Ninh Pagoda was built in the 10th century under the reign of King Dinh Tien Hoang located in the grounds of Hoa Lu ancient citadel and is a sacred place to worship Buddha and famous monks who made many contributions to the development of Buddha. According to historical records, Duyen Ninh pagoda is a place where princesses and royal ladies under the Dinh-Le dynasty frequented. And it was in this place that Princess Le Thi Phat Ngan and General Ly Cong Uan made an oath and later gave birth to Ly Phat Ma (later ascended to the throne to take the name Ly Thai Tong). After quelling the rebellion of Khai Quoc Vuong, Ly Thai Tong changed the name of the pagoda to Duyen Ninh. In the last years of her life, Empress Phat Ngan returned to Duyen Ninh pagoda to live, practice and watch over the grave of her father, King Le Dai Hanh. Here, she cooperated for many couples to fall in love, and since then, Duyen Ninh Pagoda has become a famous pagoda in Hoa Lu ancient capital.

With more than 1,000 years old, the ancient architecture of Duyen Ninh Pagoda seems to have disappeared. The current temple has been repaired many times, located in the northeast direction, leaning against the cliff, has a very simple and simple architecture including the main hall, living room, ancestral house, dining room, and relic tower. . Duyen Ninh Pagoda is open on weekdays, from 07.00 AM to 05.00 PM. On the occasion of Tet, Vu Lan or Full Moon, the temple will close later.
