Antalya International Theater Festival
The Antalya International Theater Festival, organized by the Antalya Theater, features about 50,000 actors and 40 local theater groups who have made an essential contribution to the artistic life of the city. The festival is held in quaint theatres, providing an important cultural event and artistic impetus for Antalya.
As the first theater-centric international event in the region, the aim of the festival is to expand its reach with different theaters and institutions from other countries around the world. The festival is also a way to build relationships for joint projects through the exchange of directors, actors and technical staff to enhance cross-cultural understanding and bilateral cooperation.
Besides their main theater performances, groups can also suggest workshops and outdoor performances such as street theater, street events, dance performance events and or concerts. Guests will not only be able to exchange the unique theatrical techniques of traditional Turkish theatre, but also have the opportunity to experience Anatolia's ancient Roman roots in Aspendos and Side Amphitheater.
This event has the participation of 13 foreign companies from different countries, 7 State theater troupes, organized 27 different plays and 57 performances with a total of 40,377 spectators and opened expanded its reach with different groups from other countries in recent years.
The International Theater Festival takes a step towards establishing a future partnership between Antalya's theater and groups of foreign actors from different countries. This annual May event is a valuable asset to Anatolian carnival culture and the beginning of collaboration between theatres.
