Profile
Seven Magic Mountains is a public exhibition by famous Swedish artist - Ugo Rondinone consisting of multi-colored painted rocks then stacked to form seven rock formations from 9 to 10m high.
Ugo Rondinone is an artist who works in a variety of media, from two-dimensional paintings to wax sculptures and installations on a landscape scale. His work has been recognized for both its psychological expression and insight into the human condition and the relationship between man and nature. He is best known for installing anthropomorphic stone sculptures in 2013 at New York City's Rockefeller Plaza. From there, he extends his exploration of physical space beyond the traditional confines of gallery walls or even a public square across the Seven Magic Mountains .
Occupying a space between the stillness of the Nevada desert and the constant stream of people moving between Los Angeles and Las Vegas along Interstate 15, the Seven Magic Mountains' natural forms are reminiscent of striking rock pillars. marks the way for visitors to pass through unfamiliar landscapes. Nearby Jean Dry Lake, a popular spot in the American West, contributed to the resonant backdrop for the Seven Magic Mountains. This abstract work of art invites visitors to contemplate the desert space and in the words of Rondinone: "Seven Magic Mountains evoke a continuity and connection between human nature, man-made and nature."
The Seven Magic Mountains strengthens Nevada's identity as a place that celebrates and supports the work of artists, and draws attention to Las Vegas as it grows into a city renowned for its arts.
Visitors to Seven Magic Mountains are encouraged to bring plenty of water, nutrients, and other supplies suitable for hot, dry conditions. In addition, there are no restrooms or other amenities provided at the artwork site.
