Crumlin Road Gaol is an A-listed prison from the 19th century that first opened its doors to inmates in 1846. On March 31, 1996, Crumlin Road Gaol slammed its doors and many thought it would be for the last time, but, on 19 November 2012, HMP Belfast was reborn as a major visitor attraction and convention center.
Today, visitors can take a guided tour of the prison and hear about the site's history from when women and children were confined within the prison's walls to segregation. politics among republican and loyal prisoners and learn about why the decision to close the prison was made.
During the prison tour, visitors will be taken by a guide to visit the underground tunnel that once connected the prison to the Crumlin Street Courthouse, visitors will have the opportunity to sit in the Governor's chair, see all the prisons. wing from the circle and of course have to visit the condemned man's cell before seeing the execution room where most of the 17 men were hanged.
Crumlin Road Gaol is open 7 days a week, throughout the year (excluding July 12, 24, 25, 26 and January 1). The first tour starts at 10:00 and the last tour around 16:30. Please wear warm, comfortable clothes and flat shoes.
