The Antique Fair is held several times a year at the Pulse Plaza event hall in Takeda, about a 10-minute subway ride south of Kyoto Station. This is the best place to buy antiques, lacquerware, scrolls, ceramics, unique items and Japanese antiques. Dealers come from all over Japan, as well as savvy buyers. There are some treasures to be found here, but don't expect any bargains. Even if you have no intention of buying, you will certainly find it a fascinating experience. And, while you're there, you can check out the Kyocera Museum of Art, located right next door. While the market is open, there is a free shuttle bus service between Takeda Station and Pulse square. Here's how to get there from Kyoto: Take the Karasuma subway line south from the city center or Kyoto Station to Takeda Station. Exit the station via Exit 4 (below): If you don't want to take the shuttle bus, a taxi will cost about 1,000 yen and take about 10 minutes.
