Profile
This scenic street, just off Piazza Navona in the central business district, is everyone's favorite with its multitude of vintage clothing stores and cool cafes and bars. Most of the buildings on the street date from the 15th and 16th centuries. The effect is very old - Rome and it's hard not to be captivated by the feel of the cobblestone street as it curves and exposes little by little.
The main attraction of this street is the shops selling antiques. This is the perfect place to shop for items like leather shoes, coats and wallets. And shopaholics often spend hours in the shops, which are a mix of everything from evening wear to jewelry, or reasonably priced shoes to antiques. There is a small supermarket to pick up groceries.
While walking along the street, visitors will find some wonders that most people miss when wandering through Rome. At number 66, for example, would be what is considered the smallest house in Rome with a small shop located on the ground floor.
At number 104 you can find a building dating back to the renaissance. This building has been restored recently so it's easy to see all the beautiful frills added to the outside. The building belonged to a lawyer, who decorated it with striking portraits of famous lawyers.
Governo Vecchio Street is a must-see when exploring the famous shopping areas in Rome.
