What to expect

Day 1: Hanoi – Ha Giang
Depart from Hanoi for a scenic 7-hour drive to the rugged landscapes of Ha Giang Province, specifically the remote district of Hoang Su Phi. As you leave the Red River Delta behind, witness the dramatic transformation of the landscape as you ascend into the mountains. Enjoy a simple yet authentic Vietnamese lunch in Tuyen Quang before continuing to the mesmerizing Hoang Su Phi region, known for its breathtaking scenery and rich hill tribe culture. Upon arrival, check into the lodge, freshen up, and take a leisurely afternoon walk through the surrounding rice terraces. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 2: Nam Hong – Giang Ha – Giang Thuong – Ta Phin Ho
Begin your day with an exhilarating 16 km trek to the hill tribe village of Ta Phin Ho, famous for its specialty herbal teas. As you journey through the stunning scenery of rice terraces and Red Dao villages, you'll enjoy a cultural immersion with a lunch stop at Giang Ha, a Red Dao village. Continue trekking through lush valleys, surrounded by towering mountains and remote villages, encountering both Red Dao and Black Dao communities along the way. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Panhou – Yen Son – Panhou
After breakfast, set out on a 12 km trek, passing through a Yao village where houses are perched on pillars along the mountainside. Traverse terraced rice fields and bamboo forests, arriving at a Red Dao house where you are welcomed with a cup of local tea. You can rest or assist your guide in preparing lunch. The afternoon continues with a walk to a Tay village in the valley before following the river back to the lodge. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 4: Hoang Su Phi – Hanoi
After breakfast, check out and begin the return journey to Hanoi. En route, enjoy a delicious Vietnamese lunch at a local restaurant. Arrive in Hanoi in the late afternoon, concluding your unforgettable journey through Northern Vietnam.

  • September-November and March-May have the most comfortable temperatures, averaging in the mid 20’s Celsius.
  • May - Aug: The summer months can get hot and humid, especially low in the valleys, with temperatures commonly going above 30 degrees.
  • The winter months of December to February are cold and foggy, sometimes on rare occasions even bringing light snow, so those visiting in these months are recommended to bring good and warm clothing.
  • Harvesting time is usually at the end of Sep & early October. Just before harvesting, rice fields will be yellow-green.
