As a TripYah Guru, my job is to enthusiastically make culture accessible to my guests. I have a PhD on Philosophy and my main interest is the research and the study of the concrete expressions by which human beings from different eras and cultures embody and express the meaning of their existence. I have a special focus on the interpretation of material culture and its impact in the building of the different worldviews with which I have been in touch during my wanderings around the world. This may sound terrifyingly theoretical or academic but, do not worry, my approach to it is very practical! My aim is to enliven the culture for my guests, not through facts and data, but by propitiating a participation in it through and enjoyable exploration of different infrastructures (discursive, affective, and material). And, even when this is grounded on rigorous research, it is not aimed at experts but at a general public. I firmly believe in the profound relationship between truth and life, so I am constantly exploring that bond. My work in TripYah is one of those activities that allow me to live and share my passion, while getting to know people from all around the world.

Passion, Love, and Death in El Barrio de las Letras! Join me on a tour through the neighbourhood that during the Golden Age of Spanish Arts was home to the greatest concentration of literary masters (and more!) known to history: Madrid's Literary Quarter o Barrio de las Letras. A small space big with stories about the ardent lives of Miguel de Cervantes, Quevedo, Góngora, or Lope de Vega (just to mention a few), which has now also become a trendy spot for Boehme shopping (boutiques, art galleries, bookstores, and antique shops) and foodie corners. And, on morning of the first Saturday of the month, el Mercado de las Ranas! A market organised by the Asociación de Comerciantes of the neighbourhood and the city hall that offers crafts, gastronomic products, recitals, live music, dance shows, children’s workshops... Let me be your guide on a 3-4 hour tour through these eventful streets so you can learn about the life and adventures that dwell in every corner of these neighbourhoods where art and literature can be felt all around.

Whilst Madrid is notorious for its lively nightlife it can’t compete with the wonders of Andalucia and other parts of Spain when it comes to specific festivals. The main annual event is San Isidro which celebrates the city’s patron saint and there are other fiestas specific to Madrid such as Dos de Mayo and Almudena but these won’t be particularly noteworthy for the foreign visitor when compared with the better known fiestas of Spain which have earned international acclaim. Madrid is a great city to visit at any time of year so you don’t need to plan your visit according to specific festivals. I will tell you all about the customs and festive activities in Madrid, and take you to join one if your visit happens to be on time with one of the festivals.

There are more than amazing architecture, various museums and art galleries and unique night life in Madrid, the central capital of Spain is also known for sacred religious and spiritual sites. We have The Basilica of San Francisco el Grande, built at the end of the Spanish Baroque in the late 18th century, this is a Neo-Classical church, reminiscent of the Pantheon in Rome; The Church of San Manuel y San Benito, a rainbow delight; The Church de San Andrés, which construction began in the 1650s using stone from a previous church on the site, today has been renovated since the Spanish Civil War with the Neo-Baroque interior.
