Zoo Zürich (Zürich Zoo)

The almost 90-year-old Zürich Zoo is located in an idyllic location on Zürichberg, in the city's Fluntern neighborhood. The zoo is located on the roof of Zürich, although surrounded by trees, it can be reached quickly and easily from the city center.

Zoo Zürich is home to approximately 4000 animals representing 380 different species with the oldest inhabitant being Nigrita, a giant Galapagos tortoise that has inhabited the zoo since 1946. Zürich Zoo serves as an ambassador between humans, animals and nature. With engaging initiatives and conservation projects, it contributes to the protection of biodiversity and shares knowledge with people of all ages.

Attractions at Zoo Zürich include:

• Lewa Savannah: in the zoo's largest reserve, the white rhinoceros, giraffe and Grevy zebra live peacefully side by side.
• Masoala Rainforest: here is home to geckos, turtles, snakes, parrots and many other rainforest animals.
• Land of Australia: koalas, kangaroos, giant perenties, and ostriches live in an environment designed for their survival and growth.
• Kaeng Krachen Elephant Park: Eight Asian elephants live in this beautiful green house.
• Aquarium: 700 species of fish and about 70 species of aquatic life live in eight large basins, each forming its own habitat. The penguin lake is also part of the aquarium.
• Mongolian Steppe: This area is home to Bactrian camels, yaks, and Cashmere goats.
• South America: Water guinea pigs, squirrel monkeys, giant anteaters, and other mammals and birds love the South American climate in this region.
• Zoology: here, goats, pigs and other domestic and farm animals enjoy being fed and petted by visitors.
