The Zen monastery follows the Truc Lam Yen Tu sect, a Vietnamese Zen sect, led by King Tran Nhan Tong (1258-1308), who was also the founder of Truc Lam Zen Monastery 700 years ago. After defeating the Mongol invaders, the king renounced the throne at the age of 35 and spent the rest of his life on Yen Tu mountain, in the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh.

The first thing that visitors see when visiting Truc Lam Phuong Nam Zen Monastery is the arched three-door gate, above the roofs are curved, tiled, the top is decorated with patterns. Above the middle aisle is the pagoda's name engraved with gilded letters. Stepping inside, the two sides of the main hall are two bell towers and drums, each tower has 3 floors, made in the style of Keo pagoda in the North, the largest bell in the tower weighs up to 1.5 tons.

Inside the main hall are large ironwood pillars imported from South Africa decorated with skillfully carved panels. In the center of the main hall is a 3.5-ton bronze Gautama Buddha in a sitting posture holding flowers, on either side of the Buddha statue are wooden statues of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva and Manjushri Bodhisattva.

In the campus of the monastery, there are also two Tinh Tam lakes, both of which have lotus flowers and colorful animals swimming, creating more peace and relaxation and making the landscape in the monastery cool. than.
