Profile
The 42-meter-high tower with its bold wire mesh structure, four pedestals and two opposite stairs has long been a symbol of Stuttgart. It is located at the highest point of the historic Killesbergp park and offers sweeping views of the city and countryside. The tower is owned by Schönerungsverein Stuttgart. Since its inauguration on July 17, 2001, Killesberg has had a large number of visitors, especially on sunny days. On some fine summer weekends, the stairs leading up and down sometimes cause traffic jams.
To mark the association's 140th anniversary, the Schönerungsverein offers the city, residents and visitors of Stuttgart a unique lookout tower: its construction and visual form, its size and wide view Great is offered from it four levels. The Killesberg Tower is visually linked to Stuttgart's other towers and viewpoints. It is an important landmark on the road from the city to the forest, into the countryside, and from the countryside back to the city. Killesberg is the starting point and destination for many walking and hiking trails.
Key design elements of the Killesberg tower are the central mast whose heel is hinged through a steel sphere into the central foundation, and the triangular mesh wire mesh. The net is stretched between the circular concrete base and the pressure ring at a height of 33.5 meters, and is in turn suspended to the top of the pole by cables. Four observatories at 8, 16, 24 and 31 meters are attached to the mast, and at their circumference are connected to the net by pressing fittings. Two spiral stairs, one going up, one going down, can only be moved by cable nets. For suspension and net cables, open the spiral cable with a diameter of 18 mm respectively. 24 mm was used, including 37 rebounds. 61 threads 2.6 mm in diameter. Their tensile strength is 1.57 kN/mm². Due to their relatively high strength, they are less susceptible to pressure exerted by accessories, e.g. for observatories. All cables and accessories are galvanized. In addition, all steel construction elements receive a double coat of paint. Hollow sections, i.e. Masts and stair tubes are galvanized on both their inner and outer surfaces
For a more hands-on experience, visit the park on the narrow-gauge Killesberg railway: both diesel and steam locomotives pull cars through the grounds - departures are frequent, visitors can wait to run on steam. For those visiting Stuttgart in July, be sure to visit the Lichterfest Stuttgart, a festival in which thousands of lanterns decorate the park.
