Vung Tau

Just over a 2-hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau is a popular weekend getaway with beachfront resorts, delicious seafood restaurants, and a slower pace of life. The history of this coastal city is a mix of religious monuments and French plantations and mansions.
The most famous landmark in Vung Tau is the Vung Tau Christ Statue, a 32m high structure that resembles the iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer of Rio de Janeiro. In addition, visitors can see old French ruins and some old military garrisons. These outposts, set up to protect the mouth of the Saigon River from invaders, are still armed with cannons and other military equipment. On another hillside, the White Villa is a residence originally built for the French governor, and is an interesting glimpse into colonial life in the country.
Vung Tau has the best weather from November to April, when the dry season comes. Around the end of April and into May, the weather becomes hotter. The rains come and provide daily downpours from May to October.
