Profile
Since opening in 1911, Hellabrunn Zoo has been a popular destination for local and international visitors. A unique reserve on the banks of the Isar River, it was established as the first Geozoo (animals arranged by continent) in the world and today houses spacious animal enclosures in the beautiful nature reserve. .
Animals have been living at Tierpark Hallbrunn since 1928, with some now living together in natural communities in large separate areas. The zoo also hosts a variety of events at different times of the year, providing a wealth of knowledge about the reserve's natural habitat. Here, animals roam freely in large areas without fences or cages, to better learn about animals and protect the environment.
Hellabrunn Zoo has long been an active member of the European Endangered Species Programs (EEP) and the European School Book (ESB). Endangered species are bred at zoos to ensure their long-term survival and, if possible, for subsequent introduction into suitable habitat.
