Mee Ton Poe noodle shop in Phuket

This unique little eatery was established more than 70 years ago by a local family, since then it has been over 3 generations. At lunchtime, the locals often come here for a quick but delicious plate of noodles.

Hokkien is a noodle dish with large yellow noodles prepared with some pork, seafood, vegetables covered with a dark brown gravy and a soft boiled egg. Most people add some condiments to suit their taste, including dried red pepper, a little sugar, and vinegar. People also often enjoy this dish with satay pork and chives, they are often available on the table, next to the spice tray.

Although noodles are still the main dish here, you can try more Phuket-style appetizers like fish cakes and spicy fish curry with betel leaves that are also delicious. Mee Ton Poe restaurant also serves rice and other unique dishes. Another must-try is khao raat gaeng, a type of plain rice topped with a variety of meats or vegetables. The top layer consists of fried eggs, red curry and sautéed kale.

Although quite famous and crowded, the price is quite cheap. On average, you'll pay around 60–150 baht per meal, depending on what you order. Mee Ton Poe's signature Hokkien mee is about 35–60 baht.

Mee Ton Poe has a second branch in Kathu, on the way from Tesco Lotus mall to Patong beach. It has a more spacious and comfortable space than the main facility but has a slightly Chinese style.

Mee Ton Poe Restaurant is a truly authentic local Thai experience worth stopping by. The restaurant is often crowded especially at lunchtime, so you may not have your own table to sit but have to sit with other guests.
