Although located in Piazza dei Miracoli, the baptistery of St John Pisa Baptistery is a worthy attraction in its own right. This structure was created around the same time as the Bell Tower and was built to replace the old baptistery. Inside the baptistery, the opulent decor continues and you can find a pulpit and a highly decorated font.

The Battistero di Pisa (Baptistery of Pisa) - or Battistero di San Giovanni (Baptistery of St. John) - is one of the tallest religious buildings in Pisa, Italy. It is located in Piazza dei Miracoli (miracle square). It was built between 1152-1363 and was built in place of the existing baptistery. Surrounding this imposing and impressively structured baptistery are the famous buildings of Pisa, namely; Tower of Pisa and Duomo di Pisa (Cathedral of Pisa). Baptism can be seen from these two places and is an impressive sight to behold.

Designed by Diotaluvi; Evidence can be found on two pillars where he signed his initials. These pillars are located inside the building and have date 1153 (Pisan calendar). The baptism was a cross between the Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles of the period.

The rounded arches of the lower register have been designed in a Romanesque style, while the pointed arches have been built into the upper registers, giving it a more gothic look. These arches give the baptistery the elegance needed to overcome that majestic look.

The combination of Romanesque and Gothic styles gave the baptistery certain distinctive features that set it apart from others. The unique way in which it has been designed is proof of intricately built Italian architecture. The baptistery has been built using white marble, giving it a splendid look.

When you enter the church, you will find an octagonal font right in the center of it. This font was designed and built by Guido Bigarelli from Como, in 1246. At the center of the font is the majestic statue of St. John, sculpted by Italo Griselli. The monumental structure is further defined by the pulpit located to the left of this octagonal baptismal font.

Nicola Pisano, built Pulpit of the baptistery, one of the first masterpieces he ever made. The sculptures and architecture have been perfectly fused together to form an impressive series of images. The classical form of Hercules is one of the most famous to see. The marble balustrade is structured in a hexagonal shape. These sculptures are placed in three places; below, where the lion's columns are located, and in the center of the human figure.
