Located on the grounds of Independence Square, on the left bank of the Ishim River, the largest opera house in Central Asia, Astana Opera was built in the best classical architectural tradition based on the direction of the First President. of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Construction of the theater began on 6 July 2010 on a 9-hectare site and opened in 2013 with the traditional Kazakh opera Birzhan and Sara.
The colorful and monumental design of the Astana Opera House makes a strong impression on visitors. You will admire multicolored marble floors with beautiful geometric patterns, traditional Kazakh crafts with many motifs used to decorate the walls. There are also murals that introduce and promote the natural beauty of this mystical Central Asian country with the famous Charyn and the resort of Burabay. The floor is made of birch, oak and cherry. The hall seats more than 1,000 people in a monumental art scene reminiscent of the Golden Age of opera. Luxurious interior with 2 main tones of red and yellow, outstanding on a neoclassical architecture, enhances the feeling of enjoying and experiencing classic works. This is the second new opera house built in Astana, considered the third largest opera house in the world with a chandelier weighing 1.6 tons and 13 meters hanging in the room.

The theater has its own orchestra, ballet and opera troupe, in addition, it also regularly organizes performances with world-famous opera troupes. The theater's repertoire includes works by famous national and international composers. The theater has a noble mission to contribute to making opera and ballet part of the cultural quintessence of Kazakhstan and to promote the rich heritage of classical music with friends from all over the world.
