Profile
Menza means “canteen” in Vietnamese, and it features stylish decor inspired by Hungary’s Socialist era with classic furnishings, striped tablecloths and floral wallpaper. .
In the early years, Liszt Ferenc Square in Budapest's 6th District was a popular meeting place for discerning locals, but as time went on, stylish locals moved elsewhere and Liszt Ference began to see the rise of many restaurants that trap tourists with signs "Hungarian cuisine" and "Menu for tourists". However, it's also here where you still find one of Budapest's best Hungarian restaurants: Menza.
Menza has a large space, elegant modern interior and it prepares traditional local dishes with unchanged quality that any Hungarian "grandmother" would nod in agreement.
The menu at Menza blends tradition and modernity: there is traditional Hungarian chicken soup and artisan hamburger, with favorites such as cold strawberry soup, duck leg with ratatouille, and kohlrabi. Baked with minced veal. The dessert menu is perhaps Menza's strong point, with delicacies that often appear during the colder months: Mákos guba topped with poppy seeds and Kaiserschmarrn – a Habsburg-era shredded pancake topped with vanilla ice cream and apricot jam. always satisfy customers.
The restaurant also has a small bartender serving coffee, fresh juices, beer, cocktails and a wide variety of wines (mainly from Hugonary).
Menza is usually crowded with locals and tourists always waiting to get a table, so it's a good idea to book a table before coming here.
