The Gao Giong Ecological Tourism Area was established in 2003, covering about 36 hectares and located approximately 15 kilometers from the center of Cao Lanh City (Dong Thap). Before becoming a tourism destination, the area was a waterlogged land with many canals and dense reed bushes, accessible only by boat during the flood season. Thanks to the efforts of Youth Volunteer Force 705, the cajuput forest was restored, turning it into a thriving habitat for numerous birds and wildlife.

Gao Giong is famous for being home to over 15 species of birds, including white herons, wild ducks, and several other species.
