Open the door, walk in and you'll find yourself in a tiny space with a distinct New York City vibe.
Mezcal and tequila are the signature spirits at Ghost Donkey. Delicious craft cocktails are available, but the menu leans heavily on mezcal and tequila options, and even includes a few rare cousins, like sotol.
If you want a mixed drink, it's a sin to skip the Stealth Margarita, made with fine Cazadores Blanco Tequila, St. Germain, cucumber, lemon and pepper. Aloy Old Fashioned gives the classic drink an alternative with Peloton Mezcal, Rhum Clement, papalo, shiso and bitters.
On the late-night snack menu, the bar's truffle nachos, as well as a carrot version with three spicy carrot variations, wild mushroom with puréed huitlacoche, and chorizo and tripe performances.
Agave spirits are the specialty, whether sipped on their own or in a range of wildly invented cocktails. In particular, Mezcal is used to its fullest in thoughtful recipes that don't contradict the alcohol's usual smoky flavor. For food, Ghost Donkey does one thing and does it well: nachos. The black truffle version of cheddar seems to be getting the most attention, but it's the habanero carrot top option that's really waiting here.
Between twinkling lights, neon signs, and a not-so-loud mix of reggaeton, Latin and cumbia music, this little speakeasy is a great spot for a light date, date night or adventure solo.
