Young people in the style of the 60s Hippies focus on the Haight area, the Italians focus on North Beach, and those who want to find gold or make a lot of money go to the Financial District. Although there are many skyscrapers here, residents and visitors can still see the sky at sunset. People from New York will think this is the downtown area, people from Melbourne, Australia will call it. this is the CBD (Central Business District), and Londoners would call it The Square Mile or The City.

Situated right at the foot of the hills and adjacent to the waterfront, this is where all the economic activity takes place in years when the only way to get around is on foot or by boat. Today, locals and tourists can get around by bus, some trams and cable car routes across the road.
