Hoang A Tuong mansion is located about 102km from Sapa town, if you go by car, it will take two and a half hours to get here. Hoang A Tuong residence, also known as Hoang Yen Chao castle, is located in Bac Ha town, Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province. Hoang Yen Chao was a land tyrant (mandarin in the ancient minority community) of the Tay people, but he ruled over an area with 70% of the Mong ethnic group (formerly known as the Meo ethnic group), so it was also known as the Meo king. Hoang Yen Chao. Hoang A Tuong is the name of one of his children. Hoang's father and son tried to exploit the people in the area at that time, they monopolized the sale of salt and necessities under the protection of the French, created the wealth of Hoang A Tuong's family.
The mansion was built in 1914 and completed in 1921. The building is about 1000m2 wide, surrounded by solid walls. The mansion was designed by two French and Chinese architects. Therefore, Hoang A Tuong mansion is a harmonious combination of Eurasian architecture. The workers are the best masons taken in the prisons and they are divided into different works. Behind the house there is also a solid escape hatch and a secret room as a shelter. Perhaps because of that, after 7 years of construction, on the day of inauguration all tunnel builders, people holding drawings and construction were missing. Some people think that Hoang A Tuong "killed" them to keep it a secret. This place became a tourist area to welcome many visitors to visit and admire the most beautiful works in Bac Ha at that time.
