Built in 1724 by Maharaja Jai ​​Singh II of Jaipur, Jantar Mantar is one of five astronomical observatories built by the king in Northern India. Legend has it that Maharaja Jai ​​Singh II was fascinated by the movement of celestial bodies and therefore commissioned the construction of the Jantar Mantar to be able to calculate their distances, positions and speeds.

The Jantar Mantar includes 13 astronomical instruments used to predict the motions and times of the planets, sun and moon.
